Looking for a legal way to download music onto your computer? If you’ve been using Kazza or other file sharing programs to download music, you could get into big trouble and it’s best to avoid it altogether. However, Google indexes hundreds of thousands of MP3s, WMAs, and OGGs that are stored in open directories all over the world and which you can download for free without worrying about legal issues.

Finding free music downloads using Google

All you need to do is know how to create a query in Google that will find the exact song you are looking for. Here’s how to find MP3 files in open directories using Google:

-inurl:htm -inurl:html intitle:”index of” “Last modified” mp3

The inurl filter and intitle filters are used to find the open directories on the Internet. The mp3 filter at the end tells Google to look inside of these directories for any files with mp3 in the name. You can also search for WMA and OGG by changing the value of mp3.

You can also create a more specific query, i.e. for a particular band or song, by adding more filters after the mp3 filter. For example, here I am searching for Linkin Park songs:

-inurl:htm -inurl:html intitle:”index of” mp3 “Linkin Park”

There are a couple of ways you can search for music using Google search and I will list out a few more that I have used before for finding music via Google search:

-inurl:(htm|html|php) intitle:”index of” +”last modified” +”parent directory” +description +size +(wma|mp3) “Linkin Park”

This one is slightly longer, but does pretty much the same thing. As you can see it includes a few more filters that are not present in the first search mentioned. You can try out both and see which one gives you better results. Using both, I’ve been able to find tons of songs related to Linkin Park , not just her own, including parodies, remixes, etc.

Finding free MP3 downloads via del.icio.us

You can also find a lot of free music using the popular bookmarking service del.icio.us. Basically, you have to perform a custom search in order to find MP3 files that have been tagged. You can do this by typing in:

http://del.icio.us/tag/system:filetype:mp3

This will give you a nice list of MP3s that have been indexed on del.icio.us. If you want to find items tagged for a specific artist or band, you can use the following URL:

http://del.icio.us/tag/system:filetype:mp3+Linkin Park)

Pretty neat! If you want to download the song to your computer, you just have to right-click on the link and choose Save Link As or Save Target As.

You can also check out MP3 blogs and MP3 Blog Aggregators as they routinely put up free downloads to the latest music for a specific period of time.

If you’re just in the mood to listen to the latest music, but not download it, you can check out to really cool sites, Seeqpod and Songza, that I had written about earlier. Enjoy!

I will b soon post a list of Sites that allow you to listen online Songs. :)

Ok i m telling u a hack by which u can access a website by typing a site from Windowz Run Dialog Box..here we go..

Using this trick you can type “g bbc” to directly open BBC website in firefox / IE.

First step is to create a batch file with the following text:

For Firefox users:
"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" "http://www.google.com/search?btnI=I'm+Feeling+Lucky&q=%1"

For IE users:
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE" "http://www.google.com/search?btnI=I'm+Feeling+Lucky&q=%1"

Save the file anywhere (preferably in C:\Program Files) with a name “g.bat”. The above one line of code essentially starts Firefox or IE and requests Google to fetch your favorite site using “I am feeling lucky” feature. The “%1″ towards end tells windows to get the first parameter followed by “g” and passes it to Google.

Before you can use this you just need to modify your environment variables. For this:

1. Right click on “my computer” and select properties
2. In the dialog box go to “advanced” tab and click on “environment variables” button

3. Select “path” from system variables and click “edit” button

4. Append “;C:\Program files” (if you have saved the batch file in some other directory mention that path here) to the path in the end (dont forget the ; before C: )

5. Click OK all the way back.

Now you can use run dialog box as Google search bar with “I am feeling lucky”, You can use the same trick to do searches on ebay, amazon, imdb, yahoo or wikipedia or anything else.

Is you school, college or office blocking you from getting on social network sites like Friendster, Facebook, Myspace, Bebo, Hi5, Orkut, etc? Here’s few ways you can bypass the restrictions and surf like normal, but please check with your local authorities before using them. We will not held any responsibility if you’ve breach the regulations of any.

Full list after jump.

  1. Using IP Instead of URL

This depends on the software/application used. Sometimes blocked sites are stored as a list of URLs (eg. www.yahoo.com, www.donwload.com,etc) and typing the IP instead of the URL might sometimes work. In a local computer, doing a ping domain.com command in Command Prompt (Mac users use Terminal) will return you the IP address. You can also do it online via www.whatsmyip.org

2.Redirection with Short URL service

Sometimes the URL you intend to browse might be ban, but converting them to another a shorter URL with short URL services might just help you to bypass the settings.

Here’s 2 Short URL service we’ve previously mentioned – MooURL, SnipURL

3.Google Cache

Search engines like Google and Yahoo cache webpages and these cached pages are stored in search engines themselves, which likely will be added to the blocked list. One way to access the blocked site is Open www.google.com and in SearchBox type”cache:sitename.com“, will directly take you to site’s home page. or simply Type Sitename.com in google or yahoo searchBox and click the Cached link as shown in figure 2 .

4. Internet Archive – Wayback Machine

Wayback Machine is a internet service that periodically keeps a copy of almost all websites in the Internet way from the date they’re started. Clicking on the latest copy of what Wayback Machine have should be somewhat similar to the real site. Another way to access blocked sites via caches.

  1. Anonymous Surfing

Some site allows you to take advantage of their proxy or domain to surf other sites as anonymous. Here’s 90+ proxy websites we’ve previously mentioned.

Access 90+ Proxy Websites To Access Blocked Website

5.Use Proxy in Browsers

There are tons of sites out there that distributes free proxies of almost any country. Here’s an example. Check out the following methods on how/where to insert proxies in your webbrowser.

Proxy Surfing -FIREFOX

Under Advanced tab, select Network tab, then click inside Connection Settings. Select Manual proxy configuration, put proxy under HTTP proxy

Proxy Surfing- INTERNET EXPLORER

7. Bypass with Translations services

Online translation services like AltaVista BabelFish, Google Translate allows you to translate a website from one language to another and display the translated results on their own page. The trick here is to enter the URL (website you’re blocked), retranslate it even if you don’t need to and let Google or AltaVista fetch you the content.

8.Subscribe to RSS Feed

This might not work for all sites, but if the site you intended to visit provides RSS feeds, you can subscribe and read it with a RSS reader, or have it regularly send the contents to your email.

9.Retrieve web pages via Email

    1. Web2Mail is a free service that sends websites you want to read right into your inbox. All you need to do is send an email to www@web2mail.com with the URL as subject title.

Feel free to share ur ideas and suggestions in comments ! :-)

Proxy websites allows us to bypass our current ISP’s IP and connect to targeted website with a different IP; thus hiding our actual origin from detectable. Internet users use proxy websites for various reasons, some to access websites potentially blocked by their colleges or workplace, some use it to test their scripts. I frequently used them to test geo-location ads or to check if  DNS are properly propagated when I adjust their settings.

here’s my personal collection on proxy websites. Full list after jump.
